What are Vainu Custom Industries?

The Vainu Custom Industry taxonomy contains over 800 industries that you can select and combine to create accurate target segments. The software custom industry, for example, is broken down into multiple subcategories. We believe that traditional industry classifications are often too generic, broad, or even incorrect for B2B segmentation purposes. That is why we have built our own AI model that uses website content and extensive training data sets to determine unique industries for each prospect that has a web domain. Therefore, Vainu Custom Industries are available in all of our databases - including Vainu Global!

🩳 Fun fact: We often shorten Vainu Custom Industry to VCI. In official documentation we try to use the full name, but the abbreviation does pop up here and there. Knowing this, you can now discuss VCI's like a true professional!

Below is an example of what Vainu Custom Industries might look like on a company card. Notice the green and orange dots behind each industry classification indicating a confidence score for each.

What do we mean by Confidence Score?

All Vainu Custom Industry classifications are predictions based on our AI model. And, since they are predictions, there is also a prediction metric that comes along with the actual label. That prediction metric is called Confidence Score.

Confidence Score is a value given to each Vainu Custom Industry label that we have identified for a specific prospect. The Confidence Score is a number between 0 and 1. The higher the score, the more confident Vainu is that the label matches that specific prospect.

Another key element in our taxonomy is called Confidence Threshold. It is simply a numerical value that, when surpassed, gives those Vainu Custom Industries a confidence class of high which is important for at least two reasons:

  • only high class Vainu Custom Industries are shown on the company card

  • when filtering with Vainu Custom Industries the default is to only show prospects that have been ranked high class

πŸ’‘ We have written a comprehensive guide about Confidence Score in our blog. Be sure to check it out here, if the topic interests you in more detail.

How to use Vainu Custom Industries

Vainu Custom Industry data is available:

Using the Vainu Custom Industry filter

The filter lists all Vainu Custom Industries in alphabetical order. You can scroll through the list, investigate the smorgasbord of options through our external list of all Vainu Custom Industries, or you can just start typing to locate interesting Vainu Custom Industries.

πŸ€“ You know your ICP better than we do, but here are a couple of perennial favorites from the list of Vainu Custom Industries to help you get started:

  • Artificial Intelligence

  • Consulting

  • E-Commerce

  • FinTech

  • Health Care

  • Information Technology

  • Logistics

  • Manufacturing

  • Retail

  • SaaS

  • Software

You can add multiple Vainu Custom Industries, but notice the difference between adding them on the same row and on a different row. All labels placed on the same row are behind an OR operator, which simply means that Vainu will show all prospects that have even just one of those Vainu Custom Industries.

In the example below, we wanted to find prospects who have both the desired Vainu Custom Industries listed. Therefore, we separated them to two rows to use the AND operator in order to emphasize that both criteria need to match.

As with many other of our filters, you can turn them into excluding filters. Maybe instead of finding prospects that have both the CRM and IT consulting labels, you want to find IT consulting prospets that have nothing to do with CRMs. Just select "is not" from the dropdown in the first row and you are good to go!

Finally, you might have noticed the blue link titled "high" right next to the Vainu Custom Industry label inside the filter cell. That indicates that, by default, Vainu is looking for prospects whose Confidence Scores are above the Confidence Threshold within that Vainu Custom Industry. (Confused? Check the section about Confidence Score above)

But that little indicator is also a link that you can click to customize the Confidence Scores within that specific Vainu Custom Industry. Maybe you got too little results by using the default. Or too many! Try playing with the Confidence Score slider to get less or more results. You be the judge when the results get too murky to be relevant or how high the bar has to be set to truly find those diamond-level prospects!

Frequently asked questions

❓ How many Vainu Custom Industries are there? Will you add more? Can you add an industry?

At the moment we have over 800 Vainu Custom Industries in our taxonomy. We plan to add new ones in the future. You can suggest missing Vainu Custom Industries through our Support channels. We can't promise to add new industries, but we can investigate if our AI model could work wonders on them.

❓ Who decides the Vainu Custom Industries attributed to prospects and how?

Our AI model is based on prospects' real website content. It has gone through extensive training data and our Data Research team has done a lot of manual validation to make sure the data is as polished as possible.

❓ Why do some prospects have no Vainu Custom Industries? Or only a few? Or a ton of them?

Prospects without an identified web domain have no Vainu Custom Industries, and the same goes to prospects whose web domains have very little no readable content. The richer the website content, the better we can make educated guesses about their respective industries. AI isn't faultless - and sometimes it makes mistakes or gets a little too eager when tagging relevant industries. Feel free to report any obvious errors through our support channels.

❓ There are two Vainu Custom Industries without Confidence Score indicators: B2B and B2C - why is that?

B2B and B2C are a little special in the sense that they are not so much industries but rather business models. Whereas the question "Does this company belong to industry X" can easily be answered by placing the company on a scale (Confidence Score), we believe that B2B and B2C are more binary by nature - a company either belongs or doesn't belong to those classifications. Therefore, we deem it sufficient to have only the label on the company profile when applicable.
