Which version of Vainu are you using?
How does the search work in the new Vainu app?
The filtering logic has been further refined and the platform is more clearly reflecting the different combinations of search by displaying the used criteria in a sentence format. By using different operators the queries are easy to understand and modify. AutoSave will make sure you don’t lose any latest changes even when switching between lists or modules in Vainu.
The filter categories are visible under the list name and what they contain is specified below. When opening a filter category there will be one or more filters to choose from. First, you select the filter and then you can determine if you want to include or exclude these types of companies. Most of the filters have only two options: “is” or “is not”.
For example:
There are a few filters that also have options “contains”, “starts with” and “doesn’t start with”.
After choosing this, depending on the filter you have to choose from a list, type, or choose a range for the filter.
Examples of "is" and "is not" searches.
This search will give us companies that are located in Helsinki.
This search will give us companies that are located anywhere else than in Helsinki.
OR and AND searches
The logic behind OR searches is that you can widen the search and do not have to make multiple lists. For example, you can find companies with Visiting city in Helsinki OR Espoo. OR search is made by selecting multiple search values for the same filter.
AND searches are created by selecting “+”. It means that the companies on the list comply with all the criteria selected. For example, the below filters narrow the list to companies that have websites in English AND use Pipedrive as CRM.
Filters from different categories are always with AND logic.
You can also do AND and OR searches at the same time. With this example, you get the companies that have websites in English or Spanish and that use Pipedrive.
How does the search work in the old Vainu platform?
You may have noticed that simply by clicking on the filter you have selected, you can change its colour to red, blue, or green. The colours represent different search conditions – OR being the default state.
OR searches
You can recognize OR search from its blue colour.
OR search is the basic search. If you look at the filters selected on the picture below, the search would find me companies that either use Giosg OR Zendesk OR Userlike Chat. So the company needs to have any one of the three technologies, but not all of them.
AND and ALL searches
You can recognize AND search from its green colour.
AND search is the second most common search option in Vainu. Any filters you give in your search will ALL need to match for the company to show up in your search.
If you look at the picture below, it would mean that the companies need to have a revenue of over 900 000 euros AND the companies need to have 8 or over 8 employees. If both filters apply to a company, it will appear in your search results.
"I want to find companies that have Giosg OR Userlike on their website AND Zendesk."
The green colour tells you if the filter is using the AND search option.
NOT – the negative search
You can recognize the NOT search from its red colour.
By using the NOT search, you can for example remove companies that are in a static list from your search results, like in the picture below. That means that any company that is on the Domain import -list would not be shown in your search results.
You can also search companies without specific website technology.
"I want to find companies that DON’T have a website on their company profile."
Keyword search and company name search
All the AND, OR, NOT filter options apply to keyword searches as well.
OR Example: Website needs to have either word “tech” OR “computer”
AND Example: Website needs to have word “tech” AND “computer”
NOT Example: Website needs to have word “tech” BUT NO word “computer”
💡Vainu automatically searches any words that include your search word: If you type in “tech”, Vainu searches also for words TECHnology, TECHnologies, TECHnological, etc.
